I have always been curious about absinthe…how is it? Does it make you feel differently than “regular” alcohol?? Inquiring minds and all…

i really like it! but it is also not for everybody. you definitely need to enjoy the taste of licorice in order to like absinthe.

i think that one of the best things about drinking absinthe is the process of preparing it. you slowly add cold water to the absinthe and the moment that it goes cloudy does actually seem magical. and of course, setting the sugar cube alight is really fun. the whole fire thing isn’t technically the right way to prepare it, but i like how the burnt sugar affects the flavour and i’m a sucker for how dramatic it looks.

as far as how it affects you - i’m sure it’s different for everybody but i think that all the stuff about it being hallucinogenic is an exaggeration. that being said, it does have a high alcohol content but doesn’t make me feel trashed. i’ve heard it described as a lucid drunkenness, and i can see how that term would apply.

it’s definitely not an all the time drink but it can be pretty fun, especially if you’re sharing it with a few friends.
